What happens in the counselling room?
Initial Assessment and Session 1
When you’ve never sat in a counselling room, it can seem daunting. This page will hopefully pull back the curtain for you. I’ve included a list of themes and topics that I work with. What you want to talk about might not be on there. I offer a free half-hour initial assessment where we will decide, together, if I am the right fit for you. In this session, we will begin to identify some key themes of your story. In our first session, we will look at potential ways of progression.

How much will it cost?
My rate is £75 an hour. I offer concession prices of £60 for students and low-income households receiving benefits. When filling out a contact form, just let me know if either of these applies to you. If you are unsure about enquiring because of the cost, please contact me to discuss what might work for you.
How many sessions will I have?
I work in six-session blocks, reviewing at every sixth session. When we review, we will talk about what has been helpful and what has been less helpful. We will work collaboratively to build your therapeutic journey, helping you to become an active agent of change in your life. When you feel ready to come to an end with your counselling journey, we will work towards an ending.
What happens in a session?
You might have hours of experience in the counselling room, or never sat one-to-one to speak to someone before. Either way, every counsellor-client relationship is unique. After reaching out to me, we will find a time to have a half-hour session where we will decide if I am the right fit for you. If we agree that we could work together, then we will organise a time to begin regularly meeting one-to-one, either weekly or fortnightly. In the session, we will have 50 minutes to talk about what you want to bring.
Do you do single-session counselling?
Yes, if multiple sessions aren’t the right fit, then we might decide in your 30-minute assessment call that just one session could be enough. The first SSC is £75 and afterwards goes to £80. I can only offer one SSC per client per month. Please contact me if you have any questions.
